Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd will star in the sequel to Crawl, the 2019 survival thriller. Paramount is developing a new story that moves the danger to New York, where alligators invade streets and sewers after a hurricane hits the city.Alexandre Aja, who directed the first film, will return for the sequel. Production is expected to begin in Hungary later this month.In Crawl, Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper played a daughter and father trapped in a Florida home during a Category 5 hurricane. Surrounded by floodwaters, they had to survive alligator attacks.The 2019 film earned $91.5 million at the box office against a production budget of less than $14 million. The new story expands the threat by placing the animals in the heart of New York City. The change of setting takes the terror from enclosed spaces to the city's streets and tunnels.The sequel was written by Jason Harry Pagan and Andrew Deutschman, with contributions from Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur. Craig Flores, Sam Raimi and Aja are producing, while Levasseur and Azizi serve as executive producers.Gooding is known for Booksmart and his role in the Scream franchise. He also stars alongside Kevin Hart in Netflix's comedy Hours, and in Gregg Araki's I Want Your Sex.Rudd plays Nami in Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece. Her upcoming projects include Brian Duffield's Whalefall, a 20th Century Studios film starring Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin that is scheduled for October. The actress has also appeared in Hunters and an installment of the Fear Street franchise.
