Maomao and Jinshi take center stage in a new trailer for The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure, the series’ first feature film. It opens in Japanese theaters on December 11, 2026, and tells an original story by Natsu Hyuga, author of the novels that inspired the anime.

The trailer offers a look at the pair ahead of their big-screen debut.

The story gives Jinshi a task left behind by a concubine who died years earlier. When the pair examine her remains, they discover that her body is perfectly preserved. The discovery presents Maomao with a new mystery, and the two travel to another region in search of answers and a way to fulfill the concubine’s final wish.

Norihiro Naganuma is directing the film for TOHO Animation STUDIO. Because the story was created for the film and has not appeared in the novels or manga, even fans familiar with other versions of The Apothecary Diaries will find a new case for the pair.

The film is also set for a release outside Japan. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have confirmed they will distribute it in North America, but have not announced an international release date or window.

Meanwhile, the anime’s third season is streaming on Crunchyroll. Its 24 episodes are split into two parts: the first will end in 2026, while the second is scheduled for April 2027. The franchise is also preparing its first official game, due in 2027, and a live-action series for Prime Video.
