It will mark its 40th anniversary with a new commemorative edition published by British publisher Hodder & Stoughton. The international edition will feature a new introduction by Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Netflix's Stranger Things.

The Duffer brothers' involvement underscores the connection between Stephen King's novel and the series. Longtime fans of the author, the filmmakers have previously discussed the influence of his stories on Stranger Things, particularly their blend of coming of age, childhood friendship and supernatural threats lurking in small towns.

In the introduction prepared for the new edition, Matt and Ross Duffer reflect on the impact It had on their lives and on the way they came to craft stories. In an excerpt released by the publisher, the pair say few works have had such a profound influence on how they see and tell stories.

Originally published in 1986, It follows a group of friends in the town of Derry. Together, they confront an entity capable of taking the form of its victims' greatest fears. The book has spawned several adaptations, including the films starring Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.

The Duffer brothers' presence in the edition also highlights how King's work connects with the world of Stranger Things. The series brings together themes of friendship, childhood and supernatural horror that run through the Derry group's story and help explain the novel's influence on its creators.

So far, Hodder & Stoughton has announced the 40th-anniversary edition for the international market. No information has been released about publication in other countries.
