Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the $900 million mark at the U.S. box office in just 36 days. The result makes the Marvel film the fastest movie to reach that figure in the domestic market.

Until then, only Star Wars: The Force Awakens had surpassed $900 million in the United States. The film took 50 days to reach the milestone, 14 days longer than Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Star Wars movie finished its theatrical run with $936 million in the country.

Projections indicate that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to finish the Labor Day weekend in first place for the sixth consecutive week, adding $22 million to its box office total. That would bring its domestic haul to $922 million, just $13 million short of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The performance also surpasses that of Spider-Man: No Way Home in the U.S. market. The previous film earned $814 million in the United States and $1.9 billion worldwide, boosted by the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, as well as villains from previous Sony productions. Spider-Man: Brand New Day's main promotional draws were the hero himself and the arrival of Jean Grey, which was ultimately confirmed in the story.

The film opened to $360 million in three days, surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame, which had earned $357.1 million. It also became the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion worldwide, hitting the mark in six days.

In the global rankings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day sits in third place, behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame. The film is still expected to surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the coming weeks and remain in theaters for a few more months.
