Insidious: Out of the Further grossed US$ 3 million from preview screenings held Thursday in the United States. The sixth film in Sony’s horror franchise hits theaters this weekend, with its release timed close to Halloween.

The sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door is projected to gross between US$ 23 million and US$ 27 million in its opening weekend. If it reaches that figure, it is expected to debut in second place at the box office, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Spider-Man film is also a Sony release and is expected to gross between US$ 35 million and US$ 40 million in its fourth weekend. That could give the studio the top two spots at the North American box office.

Insidious: Out of the Further is expected to open below The Red Door, which debuted with US$ 33 million. The film, however, had a production budget of US$ 18 million, lowering the box office returns needed to turn a profit. Together, the franchise’s films have grossed US$ 740 million worldwide.

The cast includes Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and others. In the story, the supernatural realm known as The Further crosses into the real world, bringing the undead with it.

The weekend also marks the release of Mutiny, a new action film starring Jason Statham. The film is targeting an opening between US$ 8 million and US$ 10 million, against a production budget of US$ 40 million. Lionsgate acquired the North American rights but did not finance the film.

Meanwhile, the comedy Spa Weekend, which cost US$ 20 million to produce, is expected to gross between US$ 3 million and US$ 5 million in its opening weekend. The Odyssey, from Universal and Christopher Nolan, is projected to add around US$ 15 million in its sixth week after surpassing US$ 1.35 billion worldwide.
