Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 with a free update for players on all platforms. It marks the first major change to the RPG since the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The edition bundles all of Shadow of the Erdtree's content with the base game and expansion. The update also aims to make elements from the DLC more accessible from the earliest stages of the journey through the Lands Between.

Two new starting classes are available during character creation: Heavy Knight and Idus Knight. Both begin with weapons that would normally be found much later in the campaign, giving new players a chance to try expansion-inspired combat styles without having to progress dozens of hours into the game.

The items associated with these classes are new to Elden Ring and include weapons and armor. The update also adds the Steel, Idus, Lucatiel and Mad Gold sets. The Lucatiel outfit references the character from Dark Souls 2, who also had equipment featured in Dark Souls 3.

Torrent, the spectral steed obtained at the beginning of the adventure, receives three cosmetic sets: Tree Sentinel, Silver of Caria and Funereal Night Spectral Steed Attire. The appearances do not affect gameplay, but they change the mount's look with designs inspired by horses associated with bosses and factions from the game's universe.

Weapons and armor from Shadow of the Erdtree are also easier to obtain. Merchants now sell some of this equipment, including Light Greatswords and Perfumes, allowing players to put together more varied builds earlier in the game.

The update adds NPC invasions in certain regions and adjusts existing weapons and armor. The modified equipment includes the Smithscript Axe and Smithscript Spear, throwable weapons introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree.
