Prime Video has canceled Cangaço Novo, ending the Brazilian series after its second season. The decision sparked reactions on social media and, according to information released about the case, was linked to the show’s high production costs and declining viewership.

A comparison of the two seasons points to a 40% drop in viewership between the first season, released in 2023, and the second, released in 2026. Absolute audience figures and the production budget were not disclosed.

Prime Video provided no further comment on the reasons for the cancellation. The information released cited a shift in the platform’s investment priorities, with greater emphasis on sports and acquiring broadcasting rights for tournaments.

The decline in viewership is believed to have influenced the decision not to continue the series.
