Netflix has confirmed a second season of the live-action Yu Yu Hakusho and plans to begin filming in October. The streaming service has not yet announced a release date for the new episodes.

The first season adapted two major story arcs from Yoshihiro Togashi's manga in a compressed format. Among them was the Dark Tournament, one of the most memorable parts of Yusuke Urameshi's story.

For the follow-up, the information released points to the “Demon World Unification Tournament” as the series' next event. The choice leaves the fate of the Chapter Black arc in the adaptation unclear.

The decision stands out because the Chapter Black arc immediately follows the Dark Tournament in the original material. Since the first season condensed several storylines, it remains unclear whether this stage will be skipped or incorporated into the production in another way.

The adaptation retained visual elements from the manga and anime characters, but drew criticism for combining too many storylines into too few episodes. The Dark Tournament in particular had sections cut to fit into virtually a single episode of the live-action series.

Yu Yu Hakusho completed its original run in 1994. Since then, Yoshihiro Togashi has continued working on new chapters of Hunter x Hunter, despite health issues.

The author also continues to revisit Yusuke's universe in occasional projects, including crossover artwork. The second season of the Netflix production will begin filming in October.
