Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur's death, the case has resulted in its first conviction. Last Monday (31), a Las Vegas jury found Duane Davis, known as Keffe D and a former gang leader, guilty of orchestrating the rapper's murder.

Davis, 63, was convicted of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He could face a life sentence. The trial included 24 prosecution witnesses, three defense witnesses and 16 jurors.

The verdict indicates that Keffe D did not fire the shots that killed Tupac. According to the ruling, he obtained and handed over the weapon used in the crime to the shooter, motivated by a desire for revenge against the rapper, businessman Suge Knight and record label Death Row Records.

The shooter is believed to have been Orlando Anderson, Davis's nephew, or one of the other two men in the car from which the attack was carried out. All three men involved have since died.

The investigation remained stalled for years, but was revived after Keffe D himself admitted his involvement in the murder in interviews given in 2018 and in the memoir Compton Street Legend, published in 2019. The conviction is the first ever recorded in the Tupac case.

Tupac was shot and killed in September 1996, at the age of 25, in Las Vegas. The shooter or shooters were not identified at the time, although the artist's death drew international attention.

With his career cut short, Tupac became one of hip-hop's most influential figures. His albums have sold more than 75 million copies worldwide. Duane Davis's sentence will be determined at a later date.
