Nintendo is preparing a new slate of projects for the Switch 2 as it celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Devon Pritchard, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said the console’s life cycle is just getting started and indicated that the company’s strategy is expected to extend for several years.

“We’re at the beginning of Nintendo Switch 2. This is just the beginning,” Pritchard said during a panel at the Entertainment & Technology Summit. According to him, the console has already received experiences developed by Nintendo and partner studios, but there is still much more to show about the system’s potential.

Among the projects mentioned was the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is expected to arrive on the Switch 2 in November. The release will come before the live-action film The Legend of Zelda, planned for next spring. The movie is being produced through a partnership between Nintendo and Sony Pictures.

Pritchard also mentioned that a film is scheduled to be released in late April, but offered no further details about the project during the panel. His comments underscore Nintendo’s growing ties with companies in the audiovisual industry as it brings its properties to audiences beyond its current player base.

The company plans to expand the reach of its franchises amid an increasingly competitive battle for the public’s attention, with content now available across a wide range of channels and schedules. For Pritchard, Nintendo aims to stand out by creating experiences capable of fostering lasting connections between different generations.

The executive acknowledged that achieving this goal requires assessing whether each project is genuinely fun. The answer, he said, may seem simple, but it represents a challenge for the company and its developers in the years ahead.
