U2 have announced their 16th album, Carnaval de Luz, the band’s first record in nine years. The project will be released in November and will feature 12 tracks, with appearances by Rosalía and Dolly Parton.Described by the group as “a collection of songs exploring themes of spirituality, friendship, freedom and resilience in the face of dark and threatening forces,” the album also marks U2’s 50th anniversary. It is scheduled for release on November 13.Rosalía appears on “The Mirror Maker.” Dolly Parton features on “Torn,” a song written in collaboration with the singer and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid. The band describes the track as “a delicate country song depicting broken family ties, but carrying broader resonances.” Dolly Parton died this year. The announcement was accompanied by the music video for “Silencio,” the second single from Carnaval de Luz. The video showcases one of the album’s new songs, which is now being promoted ahead of the record’s release. The Portuguese title has also reignited speculation about a possible U2 performance in Brazil. In April 2025, Eduardo Paes, then mayor of Rio de Janeiro, mentioned at an event that he wanted the band to headline Todo Mundo no Rio.So far, the album announcement has not confirmed a show in the country. U2’s announcement focuses on the release of Carnaval de Luz in November and Rosalía and Dolly Parton’s appearances on the new record.
