Scuttlegator, Creature — crab turtle crocodile, designed by Jehan Choo first released in Jan, 2019 in the set Ravnica Allegiance and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.
A Simic (Green/Blue) midrange or control deck could benefit from using Scuttlegator as a defensive option that can later turn into a powerful attacker with its Adapt ability. However, there are better options in Magic: the Gathering for similar mana costs and effects, such as Hydroid Krasis, which provides card draw and life gain on top of being a large threat. Scuttlegator may not see much play in competitive decks due to its high mana cost and limited impact compared to other options available.

You can always activate an ability that will cause a creature to adapt. As that ability resolves, if the creature has a +1/+1 counter on it for any reason, you simply won’t put any +1/+1 counters on it.
