Merciless Eternal would be a good fit in a black aggressive deck that focuses on discarding cards for value and draining the opponent's life total. While it offers decent value with its Afflict ability and pump effect, there are more efficient cards like Gravecrawler or Bloodghast that provide better recurring threats in a similar mana cost range. However, Merciless Eternal could still see play in a budget or casual deck looking to apply pressure and drain the opponent's life total.
