About Herald of Leshrac

Herald of Leshrac, Creature — avatar, designed by Alex Horley-Orlandelli first released in Jul, 2006 in the set Coldsnap and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

A deck focused on land control and disruption, such as a mono-black control deck, would benefit from using Herald of Leshrac due to its ability to gain control of opponent's lands and grow in power based on the number of lands you control. However, in competitive play, there are more efficient and impactful cards available for similar strategies, such as Liliana of the Veil or The Scarab God, making Herald of Leshrac less likely to see play in high-level Magic: The Gathering tournaments.

Rules

07/15/06

Herald of Leshrac’s leaves-the-battlefield ability affects all lands you control but don’t own, not just the ones you gained control of with Herald of Leshrac. For example, if you had gained control of an opponent’s land with Annex, its owner will regain control of that land. Annex will remain attached to it, but its effect will be overridden.

07/15/06

When Herald of Leshrac’s cumulative upkeep ability resolves, if its age counters outnumber the number of lands on the battlefield that you don’t control, you can’t pay its cumulative upkeep cost and must sacrifice it.
