Gateway Shade, Creature — shade, designed by Ryan Yee first released in Feb, 2013 in the set Gatecrash.
Gateway Shade could be a valuable addition to a deck focused on utilizing Gates for mana fixing and ramp, as it can quickly grow in power with the ability to tap Gates for a significant boost. However, for a more competitive deck, cards like Knight of the Ebon Legion or Vampire of the Dire Moon may offer more immediate impact and versatility, potentially overshadowing Gateway Shade in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in certain strategies. Overall, Gateway Shade could see play in a casual or themed Gate deck but might struggle to find a place in more optimized and competitive decks.

You can’t tap an untapped Gate you control for mana and tap it to activate Gateway Shade’s ability at the same time. You must choose one or the other.
