About Duel Tactics

Duel Tactics, Sorcery, designed by Craig J Spearing first released in Mar, 2026 in the set Secrets of Strixhaven.

**Duel Tactics** would fit best in an aggressive red deck (such as Mono‑Red Aggro, Prowess, or low‑curve go‑wide decks) that wants cheap interaction to push damage through blockers while maintaining tempo, since it both pings a small creature and prevents it from blocking, potentially clearing the way twice thanks to flashback. However, in most formats it is underpowered compared to alternatives: cards like **Play with Fire**, **Shock**, or **Lightning Bolt** (in formats where it’s legal) deal more flexible or efficient damage, while **Strangle**, **Abrade**, or **Lightning Strike** provide stronger removal overall; even for evasion, cards like **Built to Smash** or pure burn to the face are often more impactful. Because 1 damage is very low impact and many creatures outscale it quickly, Duel Tactics would rarely see competitive play unless the format is extremely low‑powered or synergy‑driven (such as spells‑matter decks valuing cheap flashback), making it generally outclassed by more
