Crystal Shard, Artifact, designed by Doug Chaffee first released in Oct, 2003 in the set Mirrodin and was printed exactly in 3 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander. It's a key card in 1 combos.
A deck that focuses on tempo and disruption would benefit from using Crystal Shard in Magic: the Gathering, as it can help control the board by bouncing opponent's creatures back to their hand. While Crystal Shard is a solid card for its ability, there are potentially better options like Cyclonic Rift, which offers a more powerful board wipe effect. However, Crystal Shard can still see play in decks that require additional bounce effects or want to slow down aggressive strategies.

You can pay either of the two costs (but not both at the same time) to activate the ability.
