This card, Canal Courier, would benefit a deck that focuses on multiplayer games and combat strategies, where becoming the monarch can provide valuable card draw and advantage. While Canal Courier's ability to be unblockable in certain situations is unique, there are potentially better cards for similar effects depending on the specific deck strategy, such as Edric, Spymaster of Trest or Thada Adel, Acquisitor. Whether Canal Courier should see play would depend on the overall synergy and game plan of the deck it's included in.

Attacking a planeswalker isn’t the same thing as attacking a player. Both Canal Courier and the other creature must attack different players for the last ability to trigger.

Being the monarch carries two inherent triggered abilities. “At the beginning of the monarch’s end step, that player draws a card” and “Whenever a creature deals combat damage to the monarch, its controller becomes the monarch.”

If the triggered ability that causes the monarch to draw a card goes on the stack, and a different player becomes the monarch before that ability resolves, the first player will still draw the card.
