How does Today's book work?
A book is picked for the day and everyone gets the same one. You have six tries, and each guess is compared by author, decade of publication, country and genre.
Green means the same, amber on the decade means within ten years, and the arrow says whether the answer is older or newer than your guess.
Which books can come up?
369 of them, written by hand, from the eleventh century to the 2020s and from 42 countries. They lean towards books people have actually read rather than a list of the canon.
Why is there no page count?
Because it changes from edition to edition. A paperback, a hardback and an edition with a long introduction give three different numbers for the same book, and a column has to be defensible cell by cell.
Which year counts?
The original publication, not the translation and not the reprint. For a book first published in 1967 the decade is 1960, whichever year it reached your language.
Whose country is it?
The author's, not the publisher's. It is the reading that holds up without a footnote.
