Spider-Noir is a live-action television series developed for MGM+ and Prime Video by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot. It adapts the Spider-Man Noir concept introduced in Marvel Comics and later popularized through Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The series is set in 1930s New York City, rather than the contemporary setting of most Spider-Man adaptations. Its central character is an aging private investigator whose past as a superhero returns to disrupt his life. That premise places the show in a hard-boiled detective tradition while retaining a direct connection to Marvel’s multiverse, alternate realities and its masked vigilantes across New York.
Nicolas Cage leads the cast as Spider-Man Noir, reprising the voice role he performed in Into the Spider-Verse, but appearing here in live-action. The casting makes the series a distinct extension of his earlier interpretation: in the film, his Noir Spider-Man was an older, trench-coat-wearing version of Peter Parker with a deliberately dramatic, 1930s-inspired manner. Lamorne Morris plays Robbie Robertson, a journalist associated with the story, while Brendan Gleeson has been cast as the show’s principal antagonist, described in production reporting as a powerful New York figure. Li Jun Li is also part of the ensemble, alongside other announced performers in the production.
The project’s creative team includes executive producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal, who were central to the animated Spider-Verse films. Uziel and Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners. Harry Bradbeer directed the first two episodes, according to announced production information. Sony Pictures Television is producing the series with Amazon MGM Studios. The show was ordered for two seasons, an unusual early commitment that signaled confidence in the concept before its release. Amazon has announced that the series will stream on Prime Video, while MGM+ will also carry it in the United States. The series is officially expected to debut in 2026.
Unlike the animated feature films, Spider-Noir uses live-action staging and places its story within a period crime drama framework. Descriptions identify the protagonist as a New York private investigator forced to confront his past, rather than presenting an origin story about a young Peter Parker. That distinction matters because the series is not simply a remake of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It expands one of that film’s alternate universes into episodic television, with Cage’s older hero at its center. Until released episodes establish the mystery and cast, the confirmed premise, setting, creators, and cast provide the basis for Spider-Noir.
