Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill is a Japanese television anime adaptation of Ren Eguchi’s light novel series, illustrated by Masa. The story follows Tsuyoshi Mukoda, an ordinary Japanese salaryman summoned with three other people to a fantasy kingdom. His apparently modest gift, “Online Supermarket,” lets him order modern Japanese food and household goods from his former world. That ability becomes decisive because ingredients including soy sauce and convenience foods astonish local inhabitants and attract powerful creatures. Rather than pursuing the heroic mission assigned to the other summonees, Mukoda becomes a traveling merchant and cook as his livelihood there. Mukoda’s cooking first wins over Fel, a legendary fenrir whose appetite leads to a familiar contract with him. Fel’s immense strength makes wilderness travel safer, yet the wolf regularly demands meals from the Online Supermarket. Mukoda later gains Sui, a small slime that develops combat ability and uses acid to break down monsters. Their expeditions turn defeated monsters into meat, materials, and profit. The series also makes Mukoda’s supplies central to its comic fantasy: the gods and goddesses notice his offerings, grant blessings, and request imported sweets, alcohol, and other treats. His meals therefore shape both friendships and supernatural protection. The television adaptation was produced by MAPPA and aired in Japan from January to March 2023. Kiyoshi Matsuda directed it, Michiko Yokote handled series composition, and Nao Otsu designed characters for animation. Masato Koda, Kana Utatane, and Kuricorder Quartet composed the music. The opening theme is “Zeitaku na Saji” by Van de Shop, while Yūma Uchida performs “Happy-go-Journey” as ending theme. The first season has twelve episodes. Crunchyroll streamed it outside Asia under its English title, making Mukoda’s food-centered isekai journey available with subtitles and dubs to international viewers. It premiered on Tokyo MX and other Japanese networks that year. Eguchi originally began the web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2016, before Overlap issued the print light novels. A manga adaptation, drawn by Akagishi K with character designs credited to Masa, also expanded the franchise. The anime emphasizes the contrast between Mukoda’s lack of conventional battle magic and the extraordinary results of feeding companions. Its recurring cooking scenes are not decorative pauses: they explain Fel’s loyalty, Sui’s enthusiasm, Mukoda’s commerce, and his relationship with deities. After the first season concluded, a second anime season was announced, confirming that the television version would continue Mukoda, Fel, and Sui’s food adventures.
