Edit reference

Agatha All Along is a Marvel Studios television miniseries created by Jac Schaeffer for Disney+. Released in 2024, its nine episodes premiered between September 18 and October 30. The series continues the story of Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, after her defeat by Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision. Rather than following a conventional superhero adventure, it centers on witches, stolen magic, grief, and the consequences of deception. Schaeffer, who also created WandaVision, serves as the principal creative connection between the two productions. Hahn returns as a character whose theatrical confidence conceals both ruthless opportunism and a history of personal loss.

At the beginning, Agatha remains trapped in Westview under Wanda's spell, imagining herself as a detective investigating a murder. A mysterious teenager, portrayed by Joe Locke, helps release her from that illusion. With her magical powers gone, she assembles a coven to attempt the Witches' Road, a supposedly legendary route promising travelers what they lack. The group includes potions specialist Jennifer Kale, played by Sasheer Zamata; divination witch Lilia Calderu, played by Patti LuPone; and protection witch Alice Wu-Gulliver, played by Ali Ahn. Debra Jo Rupp reprises Sharon Davis, a Westview resident recruited despite having no knowledge of actual witchcraft.

The journey unfolds through elaborate trials involving poisoned wine, musical performance, possession, and tarot cards. These sequences give individual members of the coven distinct histories rather than treating them as interchangeable companions. Alice's story involves her mother, musician Lorna Wu, and a protective spell embedded in a song. Lilia's experience of time becomes central to an episode structured around her fragmented perceptions. Meanwhile, Aubrey Plaza plays Rio Vidal, whose antagonistic intimacy with Agatha gradually acquires a larger significance. Rio is ultimately revealed as Death, connecting the series' supernatural dangers to Agatha's memories of her son, Nicholas Scratch, and their separation.

The teenager's identity supplies another major revelation: he is Billy Maximoff, Wanda's son, living in the body of William Kaplan after a car accident. His search for his brother, Tommy, drives his interest in the Road. The finale reveals that Billy unconsciously created the Road himself, while Agatha had exploited its legend to lure witches and steal their power. Music reinforces this deception: Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote versions of “The Ballad of the Witches' Road.” By the ending, Agatha returns as a ghost, and Billy accepts her help in pursuing Tommy, leaving their uneasy partnership poised to continue.
