Tom Felton

Tom Felton is an English actor and musician best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series. Born Thomas Andrew Felton on September 22, 1987, in Epsom, Surrey, he began appearing in commercials and television productions as a child. Before Harry Potter, he had roles in the 1997 film The Borrowers and the 1999 television film Second Sight, in which he appeared alongside Clive Owen. Felton was cast as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, released in 2001. Draco is the wealthy, arrogant Slytherin student who becomes Harry Potter’s school rival at Hogwarts. Felton played the character throughout all eight films, adapting Draco as the story became darker and his loyalties grew more complicated. His performance became particularly significant in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, when Draco is ordered by Lord Voldemort to assassinate Albus Dumbledore. The character’s fear and reluctance provided Felton with more dramatic material than Draco’s earlier schoolyard antagonism. After Harry Potter, Felton pursued roles in film and television outside the wizarding franchise. He played James Ashford in the 2012 horror film The Apparition and appeared as Julian Albert, also known as Doctor Alchemy, in the superhero television series The Flash during its third season. He later joined the cast of the science-fiction series Origin, playing Logan Maine in 2018. His other screen work includes roles in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Belle, A United Kingdom, and the historical drama series The Last Kingdom, where he portrayed Hubert. Felton has also worked on stage. In 2022, he published the memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, describing his childhood acting career and experiences making Harry Potter. The book discusses his friendships with cast members, the pressures of growing up publicly, and his relationship with the franchise after filming ended. Music has remained another part of Felton’s career. He has released songs independently and performed as a singer-songwriter, often accompanying himself on guitar. His post-Potter work therefore extends beyond a single famous role, but Draco Malfoy remains the performance most closely associated with him. Through that character, Felton became one of the defining young actors of the Harry Potter films, appearing across a decade of productions that transformed J. K. Rowling’s novels into a globally recognized cinematic series.
