Heather Morris is an American performer best known for playing Brittany S. Pierce on the Fox musical comedy-drama *Glee*. Born on February 1, 1987, in Thousand Oaks, California, she grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona. Before acting became her most visible work, Morris trained as a dancer and pursued professional dance.
In 2006, Morris auditioned for the second season of *So You Think You Can Dance*. She reached the Las Vegas stage but did not join the televised finalists. She subsequently danced behind Beyoncé, including onstage and television performances connected to the singer’s 2008 hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”
That association helped bring Morris to *Glee*. Producers initially hired her to teach the cast choreography for “Single Ladies,” but she also appeared on screen as Brittany, a member of the William McKinley High School cheerleading squad. Her character joined the school’s show choir, New Directions, during the first season.
Brittany became a series regular in season two, and Morris remained associated with the role through the show’s 2015 conclusion. Brittany’s deadpan remarks and elaborate dance routines distinguished her from other students, while her friendship with cheerleader Santana Lopez developed into a central romance. Santana was played by Naya Rivera.
The show’s second-season episode “Britney/Brittany” showcased Morris in a performance of Britney Spears’s “I’m a Slave 4 U.” She also performed “Me Against the Music” with Rivera in that episode. These numbers made prominent use of the dance experience she had brought to the production before becoming a regular actor.
Brittany and Santana’s story progressed from secrecy and separation to marriage in the sixth-season episode “A Wedding.” Their ceremony shares that episode with the wedding of Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson. Morris returned for the final season after appearing less frequently in season five, when she was expecting her child.
Morris also appeared as herself in *Glee: The 3D Concert Movie*, released in 2011. The film documented the cast’s live concert tour, which brought songs from the television series to arenas. Her appearances linked her television character with the demanding live dancing that had defined her earlier professional entertainment career.
In 2017, she competed on the twenty-fourth season of *Dancing with the Stars* alongside professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Despite receiving a perfect score for a rumba to TLC’s “Waterfalls,” the pair was eliminated that same night. Alan Bersten had partnered Morris earlier in the season while Chmerkovskiy recovered from injury.
She later won the second series of the British competition *The Masked Dancer*, revealed in 2022 as the celebrity behind the Scissors costume. The result put her dance training at the center of another television appearance, this time without audiences knowing her identity until the final episode aired on ITV.
Offscreen, Morris married Taylor Hubbell in 2015 and they have two sons, Elijah and Owen. Her career connects three especially visible stages: dancing with Beyoncé, portraying Brittany across *Glee*’s six seasons, and winning a British dance competition years after the musical series ended its original run on Fox in 2015.
