Doug Belgrad is an American film executive and producer whose career has been closely associated with Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment. He joined Columbia in 1989, building a career inside the studio before becoming one of its senior production leaders. In 2008, he and Matt Tolmach were appointed presidents of Columbia Pictures. When Tolmach left that executive role in 2010, Belgrad became the label's sole president, overseeing a slate that mixed studio franchises with comedies and filmmaker-driven commercial projects.
During his years at Columbia, Belgrad was involved in the studio's development and production operations for films including Men in Black, Superbad, Zombieland, and The Social Network. These titles reflect distinct strands of the company's business: franchise filmmaking, comparatively inexpensive comedy, and prestige drama. The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, became a major awards contender. Belgrad's position placed him on the studio side of such productions, rather than necessarily among their individually credited producers.
In 2014, Belgrad was promoted to president of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Motion Picture Group. The appointment expanded his responsibilities beyond Columbia to the broader film operation. His tenure coincided with a turbulent period for Sony, including the destructive cyberattack against the company later that year. In 2016, he left his executive position and established 2.0 Entertainment, moving from studio management into producing and financing. The new company maintained a relationship with Sony, providing a bridge between his and subsequent work.
2.0 Entertainment participated in films drawn from several established Sony properties. Its projects included Peter Rabbit, the 2018 film combining live action and animation, and The Equalizer 2, which reunited Denzel Washington with director Antoine Fuqua. Belgrad also received producer credit on Charlie's Angels, the 2019 installment directed by Elizabeth Banks. These productions placed his company within familiar studio territory: adaptations, sequels, and attempts to refresh recognizable screen properties for audiences beyond the viewers of their original films or sources.
Another prominent producing credit is Bad Boys for Life, released in 2020 and starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, it revived the action series after a seventeen-year gap following Bad Boys II. Belgrad subsequently returned as a producer on Bad Boys: Ride or Die, released in 2024. Together, these credits illustrate the clearest continuity in his career: developing commercial films within a major studio and later helping produce new entries in franchises.
