About Scrapyard Recombiner

Scrapyard Recombiner, Artifact creature — construct, designed by Simon Dominic first released in May, 2019 in the set Modern Horizons.

This Scrapyard Recombiner card would be beneficial in a deck that focuses on artifact creatures and has a toolbox approach, allowing for flexibility and recursion with the Modular ability. While it offers utility in searching for Construct cards, other cards like Arcbound Ravager may be more impactful due to their ability to sacrifice artifacts for a powerful effect. However, Scrapyard Recombiner could still see play in decks looking for additional tutor options and synergies with artifact creatures.

Rules

14/06/19

If a creature with modular receives enough -1/-1 counters to cause it to be destroyed by lethal damage or put into its owner’s graveyard for having 0 or less toughness, modular will put a number of +1/+1 counters on the target artifact creature equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on this creature before it left the battlefield. That’s because modular checks the creature as it last existed on the battlefield, and it still had +1/+1 counters on it at that point.
