Hierarchy is a 2024 South Korean Netflix drama set at Jooshin High School, an institution attended by children from the country’s wealthiest families. The school’s name reflects the Jooshin Group, whose influence reaches beyond the campus, and its students are arranged according to privilege rather than merit. The series was released on Netflix on June 7, 2024, with seven episodes. Bae Hyun-jin directed the show, while Choo Hye-mi wrote it. Its story combines melodrama, romance, class conflict, and a murder investigation, using an academy as the setting for a critique of inherited power and the ways status can suppress institutional accountability.

Lee Chae-min plays Kang Ha, a recent transfer student whose arrival disrupts Jooshin’s protected social order. He is not at the school to study: he is investigating the death of his brother, Kang In-han. The official conclusion was suicide, but Kang Ha suspects that students and adults with money and connections concealed what happened. His questions expose a culture in which parents, administrators, and pupils protect reputations at any cost. The narrative follows his search for evidence while showing how those at the top of the school hierarchy can determine who is believed, punished, isolated, or allowed to escape consequences.

Roh Jeong-eui portrays Jung Jae-i, Jooshin’s best-known student and the daughter of the Jaeyul Group’s chief executive. Her public image makes her a central figure in the school’s hierarchy, yet the series reveals the pressure placed on her by family expectations and by classmates who see her as an asset. Kim Jae-won appears as Kim Ri-an, the heir to Jooshin Group and Jae-i’s former boyfriend. Ji Hye-won plays Yoon Hye-ra, an ambitious student from a powerful family, and Lee Won-jung plays Lee Woo-jin, Ri-an’s close friend. Their alliances, rivalries, and romantic entanglements shape Kang Ha’s investigation and its dangerous consequences.

Hierarchy was produced and is in Korean. Its title describes the system governing Jooshin High: a group of students wield social authority because their families control wealth and institutional influence. Rather than presenting its affluent setting as glamour, the drama connects privilege to intimidation, secrecy, and unequal treatment. The program’s ensemble had notable roles: Roh Jeong-eui starred in Our Beloved Summer, Lee Chae-min appeared in Crash Course in Romance, and Kim Jae-won featured in King the Land. Hierarchy’s mystery ultimately makes the school’s ranking system inseparable from the question of who has the power to define truth after a death.
