Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill is the English-language title of Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hōrō Meshi, a Japanese television anime adapted from Ren Eguchi’s light novel series. The story begins when salaryman Tsuyoshi Mukoda is summoned to a fantasy world alongside three people chosen as heroes. Unlike them, Mukoda’s ability is “Online Grocery,” which lets him order food and household goods from modern Japan. Judged unremarkable by the kingdom that called him, he chooses to travel independently.

Rather than centering on battles for a royal throne, the series follows Mukoda’s cooking as it changes his prospects. Meals made with ingredients acquired through his skill attract Fel, a legendary fenrir who becomes his contracted familiar after demanding food. Mukoda later forms a contract with Sui, an unusually capable slime. Their appetite and his dealings with merchants, adventurers, and gods shape the show’s travel episodes.

The anime was produced by MAPPA and aired for twelve episodes from January to March 2023. Kiyoshi Matsuda directed it, with Michiko Yokote handling series composition. Nao Ōtsu designed the characters, while Masato Kōda, Kana Utatane, and the Kuricorder Quartet composed its music. The opening theme, “Zeitaku na Saji,” was performed by Van de Shop; Yūma Uchida performed the ending theme, “Happy-go-Journey.”

Before the television adaptation, Eguchi began publishing the work as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2016. Overlap subsequently released it as light novels under the Overlap Novels imprint, with illustrations by Masa. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Akagishi K, began serialization on Overlap’s Comic Gardo website in 2017. The franchise also received a manga spinoff focused on Sui, illustrated by Momo Futaba.

Its title emphasizes Mukoda’s supposedly absurd skill, but the program treats shopping logistics and cooking as consequential fantasy tools. His purchases include seasonings and packaged products unfamiliar to local residents; the resulting dishes can win customers and satisfy his powerful companions. This food-centered premise distinguishes the series from the hero narrative that initially brings him to the new world. A second television anime season was announced after the first season’s conclusion.

The central tension is practical: Mukoda must feed Fel and Sui, earn money, and avoid attracting dangerous attention while crossing an unfamiliar continent. That focus makes culinary exchanges, contracts, and roadside meals the engine of its isekai adventure. His journey continues beyond the episodes covered by MAPPA’s initial television adaptation in 2023.
