Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan was born on February 9, 1987, in Santa Ana, California, and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Newark Arts High School before building an acting career. Jordan first became widely known on television as Wallace, a Baltimore teenager caught in the drug trade on HBO's The Wire. He later played Reggie Montgomery on the daytime serial All My Children and quarterback Vince Howard on NBC's Friday Night Lights.

His breakthrough film performance came in Ryan Coogler's 2013 drama Fruitvale Station, in which he portrayed Oscar Grant, the real man killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer at Oakland's Fruitvale station on New Year's Day 2009. The film premiered at Sundance and won the festival's Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for U.S. dramatic competition.

Jordan reunited with Coogler for Creed (2015), playing Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed and a fighter mentored by Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa. Creed revived the Rocky series and led to sequels. In 2018, he played N'Jadaka/Erik Killmonger in Marvel's Black Panther, a Wakandan exile who challenges T'Challa for the throne.

Jordan played Walter McMillian opposite Jamie Foxx's Bryan Stevenson in Just Mercy (2019), a courtroom drama based on Stevenson's work on McMillian's wrongful conviction in Alabama. He portrayed Navy SEAL John Clark in Tom Clancy's Without Remorse (2021), adapted from Clancy's novel and released by Amazon Studios. In 2023, Jordan made his feature-directing debut with Creed III, while again starring as Adonis. The film centres on Adonis's confrontation with Damian Anderson, a former friend and boxer played by Jonathan Majors.

Off screen, Jordan founded the production company Outlier Society in 2016. In 2020, People named him its Sexiest Man Alive, making him the publication's selection for that year. His performances often link franchise spectacle with character-driven drama: Wallace's vulnerability, Grant's final day, Adonis's search for family, and Killmonger's rage are distinct roles rather than variations on one persona. Jordan received a 2019 Screen Actors Guild Award alongside the Black Panther ensemble for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. In 2020, he was included on Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. As a producer, he has used Outlier Society to develop film and television projects. His career spans soap opera, prestige television, independent cinema, blockbuster filmmaking, sports drama, and directing features.
