Kim Si-a

Kim Si-a is a South Korean actress born on May 6, 2008. She attracted wide attention through the 2018 film Miss Baek, a drama directed by Lee Ji-won. Kim played Kim Ji-eun, a young girl subjected to violence and neglect at home. The story follows Baek Sang-ah, played by Han Ji-min, as she intervenes after encountering Ji-eun and tries to protect her against an abusive family and an unresponsive system. Kim's performance put a child's perspective at the center of a film otherwise driven by Sang-ah's choices. For the role, she received the Best New Actress award at the 39th Blue Dragon Film Awards, an unusual recognition for a performer of her age. Miss Baek was released in South Korea in October 2018. In 2019 Kim appeared in Ashfall, the disaster film directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo. The film imagines successive eruptions of Mount Paektu threatening the Korean Peninsula. Kim played Soon-ok. Led by Ha Jung-woo, Lee Byung-hun, Ma Dong-seok, Jeon Hye-jin, and Suzy, it opened in South Korean cinemas in December 2019 and places its rescue mission amid mass evacuation, damaged infrastructure, and the prospect of another eruption across the peninsula. The plot sends In-chang to work with North Korean agent Ri Jun-pyeong on a plan to prevent a final eruption. Kim later played Luna 073 in Netflix's 2021 Korean science-fiction series The Silent Sea. Set at the abandoned Balhae Lunar Research Station, the series follows a team sent to retrieve a sample amid Earth's water shortage. Luna is not merely a stranded child found at the station: she is connected to the station's human experimentation and to research into lunar water. The crew gradually learns that the water multiplies rapidly inside a human body, making it lethal under ordinary conditions, while Luna can survive exposure that kills others. Kim's character is central to the disclosure of what Balhae's researchers did and to the decision surrounding the sample the expedition was sent to recover. The Silent Sea was released worldwide on December 24, 2021. These roles mark a career that moved from an intimate child-abuse drama to a large-scale disaster release and then a streaming space thriller.
