Lisa

Lalisa Manobal, known professionally as Lisa, is a Thai rapper, singer, and dancer born Pranpriya Manobal on March 27, 1997, in Buriram Province, Thailand. She later adopted the name Lalisa and grew up in Bangkok. In 2010, she became the only person selected from Thailand in a YG Entertainment audition. She moved to South Korea in 2011 and trained for several years before debuting in August 2016 as the youngest member of BLACKPINK, alongside Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé.

With BLACKPINK, Lisa helped establish one of the most internationally prominent acts in K-pop. The group’s early releases included “Boombayah” and “Whistle,” both issued on the single album Square One. “Whistle” reached number one on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. Lisa has contributed rap verses and choreography-driven performances across the group’s catalog, including “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That,” and “Pink Venom.” BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella in 2019, then returned in 2023 as a festival headliner.

Lisa released her first solo single album, Lalisa, on September 10, 2021. Its title track, “Lalisa,” and the B-side “Money” displayed contrasting facets of her solo work: the former explicitly referenced her name and Thai identity, while the latter became a major streaming success. “Money” entered the Billboard Hot 100 and later became the first solo K-pop song by a female artist to exceed one billion streams on Spotify. The Lalisa single album set a first-week sales record for a female K-pop solo artist in South Korea at the time of its release.

In 2022, Lisa won the MTV Video Music Award for Best K-Pop for “Lalisa,” becoming the first K-pop solo artist to receive that award. She also won Best K-Pop at the MTV Europe Music Awards that year, another first for a Korean soloist. Beyond recording, Lisa served as a dance mentor on the Chinese program Youth With You 2. In 2021, she was named a global ambassador for Celine and became an ambassador for Bulgari.

After her YG contract negotiations, she announced in February 2024 the management company LLOUD, which she founded. She was announced as a cast member in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, filmed in Thailand. Her formal Thai given name is Lalisa Manobal, and her stage name uses its first syllable. In 2024, she followed “Rockstar” with “New Woman,” featuring Spanish singer Rosalía, and “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me),” a track built around a sample of Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me,” the 1998 hit single.
