Jungkook

Jeon Jungkook, known mononymously as Jungkook, is a South Korean singer and member of BTS, the group formed by Big Hit Entertainment. Born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, he joined BTS as its youngest member and debuted with the group on June 13, 2013, through the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. BTS’s early releases placed him within a hip-hop-oriented idol group, while later albums expanded into pop, R&B, electronic music, and rock-influenced material. His pre-debut background included training after auditions in 2011. Within BTS, he has performed lead vocals and contributed to recordings that often feature high-register singing. His individual BTS-era tracks include “Begin” on Wings (2016), “Euphoria” on Love Yourself: Answer (2018), “My Time” on Map of the Soul: 7 (2020), and “Still With You,” released on SoundCloud in 2020. Jungkook’s first official solo single, “Seven,” arrived in July 2023 and featured American rapper Latto. The track entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number one, making Jungkook the first BTS member to lead that chart as a soloist. He followed it with “3D,” featuring Jack Harlow, and released his first solo studio album, Golden, on November 3, 2023. Golden includes “Standing Next to You,” whose performance-based video and remix with Usher extended the album’s promotion. Before the solo album campaign, he sang “Dreamers” for the 2022 FIFA World Cup soundtrack and performed the song at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Qatar. His other 2022 collaboration, “Left and Right” with Charlie Puth, reached the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100. In 2023, he performed “Seven” at the Global Citizen Festival in New York during his solo promotional schedule. Golden was released in several physical formats and featured guest performers Major Lazer, DJ Snake, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, and Latto, alongside the album’s previously issued singles. Its title refers to the artist’s description of a “golden” period rather than a group release. Jungkook’s solo work has been presented alongside, rather than outside, BTS’s catalog: he remains identified with the seven-member group’s recorded and live history. His activities also include songwriting credits on several BTS recordings, though the exact role varies by song. Public attention has often focused on his dance performance as well as his voice, notably in BTS concerts and official videos. In December 2023, he began South Korea’s mandatory military service, a period that paused his usual public promotions as required of eligible South Korean men.
