*The Adventures of Cliff Booth* brings Brad Pitt back to the character he played in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film *Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood*. Tarantino wrote the screenplay for this follow-up, but David Fincher directs it; Tarantino both wrote and directed the original.
Netflix is behind the film, which moves Cliff’s story beyond the late-1960s setting of *Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood*. Reports have placed its action in 1977, years after the original film’s fictional reworking of events surrounding the Manson murders.
In the earlier film, Cliff works as a stuntman and driver for Rick Dalton, a fading television western actor played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Their professional partnership forms one of that movie’s central relationships and provides the background for Cliff’s return here.
Pitt’s performance as Cliff earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. It was his first competitive acting Oscar, although he had previously won as a producer of *12 Years a Slave*. The award reflects the character’s prominence before this follow-up.
Cliff’s original story included his work for Rick, a contentious encounter with Bruce Lee, and a visit to Spahn Ranch. Those scenes established his physical skill and uneasy relationship with Hollywood before the new film takes his story further forward.
The 2019 film ends by changing the historical fate of Sharon Tate, played by Margot Robbie. Cliff and Rick confront attackers at Rick’s home instead of the real murders at Tate’s residence in August 1969. The follow-up therefore inherits an alternate history.
Fincher and Pitt have worked together before on *Seven*, *Fight Club*, and *The Curious Case of Benjamin Button*. This film reunites the director and actor while putting a Tarantino character in the hands of a different filmmaker as Cliff’s story continues.
Tarantino previously expanded Cliff’s history in his novelization of *Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood*. The book provides additional material about the stuntman’s past, but its details should not be mistaken for confirmed events in the new film’s plot.
The announced film is a continuation, not a remake of the 2019 movie. Its focus shifts from the pairing of actor and stuntman toward Cliff himself, while keeping Pitt in the role that won him an Oscar six years earlier.
The established details are specific but limited: Pitt returns as Cliff, Tarantino supplies the screenplay, Fincher directs, and Netflix is involved. Beyond the reported 1977 setting, a detailed account of Cliff’s new adventures would require verified plot information that has not been established here.
