The reboot of The Exorcist has its first teaser. Titled The Exorcist: Martyrs, the film is directed by Mike Flanagan, known for the series The Haunting of Hill House. The full trailer will be released on Friday, the 9th.

Scarlett Johansson will star. The cast also includes Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle and Laurence Fishburne. Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak and Carla Gugino round out the announced cast.

The film is set to open on March 11, 2027. Described as a “radical new vision” of the saga, it will not continue The Exorcist: Believer, which had been planned as the first installment in a trilogy that never moved forward.

Flanagan has said he wants to make the scariest film of his career. The director has also said he hopes to bring something new to the franchise without relying on nostalgia for the earlier films. He wants the project to honor the films’ legacy while exploring a new approach.

The filmmaker acknowledged that expectations for the reboot are high and that he feels intimidated by the challenge. Still, he said he is convinced he can add something meaningful to the saga. The full trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs will be released on Friday, the 9th.
