Kim Kardashian was born on October 21, 1980, in Los Angeles. Her father, Robert Kardashian, was an attorney known for his role on O. J. Simpson’s defense team; her mother, Kris Jenner, later became a central figure in the family’s television and business ventures. Kardashian first worked in fashion, including as a stylist and closet organizer, before becoming a reality television star.
In 2007, E! premiered *Keeping Up with the Kardashians*, which followed Kardashian, her sisters, and their wider family. The series ran for 20 seasons, ending in 2021. Its success led to multiple spin-offs and made the family’s relationships, businesses, and public disputes recurring television stories. In 2022, they launched a new reality series, *The Kardashians*, on Hulu.
Kardashian built several businesses around the audience she developed on television and social media. She launched KKW Beauty in 2017, selling cosmetics that included contouring products, then introduced the fragrance brand KKW Fragrance. In 2019, she launched the shapewear brand Skims. Its original proposed name, Kimono, drew criticism over its use of the word for a traditional Japanese garment; Kardashian changed the name before launch. Skims subsequently expanded beyond shapewear into underwear, clothing, and menswear. She launched the skin-care line SKKN BY KIM in 2022.
Her personal life has also been extensively documented. Kardashian married rapper Kanye West in 2014, and they have four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. Their divorce was finalized in 2022. In October 2016, armed robbers entered her Paris hotel residence, tied her up, and stole jewelry. She later discussed the attack and its effect on her sense of security on her family’s show.
Kardashian has used her public profile to advocate for criminal justice reform. In 2018, she met President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss the case of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Trump commuted Johnson’s sentence that year. Kardashian later supported other clemency efforts and began studying law through a California apprenticeship program rather than attending law school. In 2021, she said she had passed California’s First-Year Law Students’ Examination, often called the “baby bar,” after several unsuccessful attempts.
She has also taken acting roles beyond reality television, including Siobhan Corbyn in the 2023 season of *American Horror Story*, titled *Delicate*. Her career spans television, beauty and apparel businesses, and advocacy, with each attracting substantial public attention and scrutiny.
