Bruna Marquezine

Bruna Marquezine, born Bruna Reis Maia on August 4, 1995, in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, is a Brazilian actor whose career began in childhood. She first appeared on television in 2002, participating in the children’s program Gente Inocente on TV Globo. Her early work quickly led to roles in the network’s major telenovelas, making her a familiar face to Brazilian audiences long before adulthood. One of her first widely recognized roles was Salette, a girl facing leukemia, in the 2003 telenovela Mulheres Apaixonadas. Marquezine later played Maria Flor in América (2005), Maria Augusta in Desejo Proibido (2007), and Flor de Lys in Negócio da China (2008). These productions established her as a recurring presence in Globo’s drama schedule. In 2010, she portrayed Teresinha in Araguaia, followed by Belezinha in Aquele Beijo in 2011. Her transition from child performer to adult star was particularly visible in Salve Jorge, Gloria Perez’s 2012 telenovela. As Lurdinha, Marquezine played a young woman from Rio de Janeiro whose romantic storyline became central to the show’s popular appeal. She subsequently starred as Luiza in Em Família (2014), written by Manoel Carlos, and as Marizete in I Love Paraisópolis (2015), opposite Maurício Destri. In 2018, she portrayed Princess Catarina de Lurton in the medieval-fantasy telenovela Deus Salve o Rei. Marquezine broadened her work beyond Brazilian broadcast television with the Netflix series Maldivas, released in 2022. She played Liz Lobato, a woman who travels to a luxury condominium in Rio de Janeiro after her mother’s death and becomes entangled in the secrets of its residents. The series also featured Manu Gavassi, Carol Castro, Sheron Menezzes, Natalia Klein, and Klebber Toledo. In 2023, Marquezine made her English-language Hollywood feature debut in Blue Beetle, a DC superhero film directed by Ángel Manuel Soto. She played Jenny Kord, a member of the Kord family who becomes an ally and love interest of Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña. The film marked a significant international step in her career, placing a Brazilian actor in a prominent role within a major American comic-book adaptation.
