Bad Bunny

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, on March 10, 1994. He first gained attention by uploading songs to SoundCloud while working as a bagger at a supermarket and studying audiovisual communication at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo. “Diles,” a 2016 track, helped bring him to DJ Luian’s Hear This Music label. His breakthrough arrived amid Latin trap’s rise, but his early collaborations—including “Soy Peor,” “I Like It” with Cardi B and J Balvin, and “Mia” with Drake—also moved him decisively into global pop audiences worldwide quickly.

His first studio album, X 100pre, appeared on Christmas Eve 2018 and won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album. In 2020 he released three projects: YHLQMDLG, Las que no iban a salir, and El Último Tour del Mundo. The last became the first all-Spanish-language album to reach number one on the Billboard 200. Its single “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez, topped Billboard’s Global 200. He also made history when YHLQMDLG became Spotify’s most-streamed album globally in 2020, underscoring the scale of an audience built without switching his principal recording language from Spanish for conventional English-language crossover success.

Bad Bunny’s 2022 album Un Verano Sin Ti spent thirteen weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 and became the first Spanish-language album nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. It was also Spotify’s most-streamed album worldwide in 2022. That year, he led the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as its first Spanish-language headliner. He followed it with Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana in 2023, an album that debuted atop the Billboard 200, extending a run that made his releases major events beyond Latin music markets in numerous worldwide territories thereafter consistently.

Outside recording, Martínez expanded into film, wrestling, and fashion-facing celebrity. He appeared in F9 in 2021 and played a supporting role in Bullet Train in 2022. A longtime wrestling fan, he performed for WWE at WrestleMania 37, won the WWE 24/7 Championship, and wrestled Damian Priest at Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico. His stage identity has repeatedly challenged conventional expectations around masculine presentation, visible in nail polish, skirts, and drag imagery. In 2025 he announced the No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico with thirty shows scheduled from July through September in San Juan.
