PAW Patrol: The Movie

*PAW Patrol: The Movie* brings the rescue pups from the Nickelodeon television series to Adventure City, where their longtime adversary Mayor Humdinger has won an election. Released in 2021, the animated film was directed by Cal Brunker, who wrote its screenplay with Billy Frolick and Bob Barlen. Spin Master Entertainment produced the film, and Paramount Pictures distributed it. In the United States, it opened in theaters and became available on Paramount+ on August 20, 2021.

Humdinger’s arrival creates work for the PAW Patrol almost immediately. His fireworks display goes wrong, and he later uses a device called the Cloud Catcher to control the weather. The machine’s failures put the city in danger. Ryder brings the pups from Adventure Bay to respond, with help from Liberty, a dachshund who knows Adventure City’s streets and admires the team.

For Chase, the assignment is personal. Ryder found him in Adventure City when he was an abandoned puppy, and returning brings back memories of that experience. Chase struggles during rescues and begins to doubt whether he belongs on the team. Liberty encourages him, while Ryder’s own predicament eventually gives Chase a chance to act despite his fear. That story makes the city more than a new location for the television characters: it is the place where one of the team’s central relationships began.

Will Brisbin voices Ryder, and Iain Armitage voices Chase. Marsai Martin plays Liberty, while Ron Pardo reprises Mayor Humdinger, a character he also voiced in the television series. The film’s voice cast also includes Kim Kardashian as Delores, a poodle whom Liberty encounters, and Yara Shahidi as scientist Kendra Wilson. Jimmy Kimmel voices television reporter Marty Muckraker.

The film retains the series’ rescue-team structure while giving its vehicles, equipment and emergencies a feature-length scale. Each pup contributes a familiar specialty: Marshall handles firefighting, Rubble uses construction equipment, Skye flies, and Zuma works on the water. The escalating trouble caused by Humdinger’s weather experiment brings those skills together in the final rescue.

Liberty’s role distinguishes the film from an episode centered only on the established crew. She begins as a local admirer who guides the visitors through her city and wants to help directly, not simply watch them work. By the end, she has earned a place with the PAW Patrol. The franchise returned to cinemas in 2023 with *PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie*, another film directed by Brunker.
