Behind Your Touch

Behind Your Touch is a South Korean television series that aired on JTBC from August 12, 2023, through October 1, 2023. Its Korean title, Hip Hage, is also rendered as Hip or Hype, a phrase that plays on the show’s eccentric premise. The 16-episode drama was directed by Kim Seok-yoon and written by Lee Nam-gyu, Oh Bo-hyun, and Kim Da-hee. It was broadcast in JTBC’s Saturday-and-Sunday 10:30 p.m. time slot and made available internationally through Netflix. The story centers on Bong Ye-bun, played by Han Ji-min, a veterinarian working in the fictional rural town of Mujin. During a meteor shower, Ye-bun develops a psychometric ability: when she touches a person’s buttocks, she can see moments from that person’s past. The deliberately absurd condition determines both the comedy and the mechanics of the investigations. Ye-bun first uses the gift on animals and townspeople, while trying to understand its limits. Her ability becomes more consequential when crimes disrupt Mujin’s apparently quiet daily life. Lee Min-ki plays Moon Jang-yeol, a detective transferred from Seoul to the provincial police station in Mujin. Ambitious and impatient to return to Seoul, Jang-yeol recognizes that Ye-bun’s visions could help solve cases. Their alliance is initially transactional and frequently combative, but it drives the series from its broad supernatural comedy toward a murder investigation. Suho portrays Kim Seon-woo, a mysterious convenience-store employee whose arrival in Mujin attracts Ye-bun’s attention. The principal supporting cast includes Kim Hee-won as local police chief Won Jong-mook, Joo Min-kyung as Ye-bun’s friend Bae Ok-hee, and Yang Jae-sung as her veterinarian grandfather, Jeong Eui-hwan. Kim Seok-yoon’s earlier collaborations with Han Ji-min include the 2019 drama The Light in Your Eyes, and Behind Your Touch reunites them in a markedly different comic-mystery setting. The series also reunites Kim Seok-yoon with writer Lee Nam-gyu, with whom he worked on The Light in Your Eyes. Rather than treating its paranormal device as only a gimmick, the show makes Ye-bun’s unwanted contact-based visions a practical obstacle and an investigative tool. Its episodes shift between village character comedy, police procedural scenes, and the increasingly serious search for a killer connected to the town. Behind Your Touch premiered after King the Land in JTBC’s weekend schedule and was followed by Strong Girl Nam-soon. Its JTBC run concluded with episode sixteen on October 1. The drama’s premise combines an power with a small-town mystery, rather than a conventional courtroom or hospital format.
