Kim Mu-yeol

Kim Mu-yeol, born on May 22, 1982, is a South Korean actor whose work spans theatre, musicals, film, television, and streaming productions. Before becoming familiar to wider screen audiences, he built experience on stage, including musical theatre, an area that helped establish his reputation as a disciplined performer with a strong physical and vocal presence.

One of his notable early film appearances came in Jung Ji-woo’s 2012 drama *A Muse*, adapted from Park Bum-shin’s novel *Eun-gyo*. Kim played Seo Ji-woo, a young writer and former student of the aging poet Lee Jeok-yo, portrayed by Park Hae-il. The character’s envy and betrayal are central to the film’s conflict, as Seo steals a manuscript inspired by Lee’s relationship with the teenage Eun-gyo, played by Kim Go-eun.

Kim later appeared in the 2013 courtroom and political drama *The Attorney*, directed by Yang Woo-seok. The film stars Song Kang-ho as Song Woo-seok, a tax attorney who becomes involved in a politically charged case during South Korea’s military dictatorship. Kim played Park Jin-woo, a student activist who is detained and tortured by authorities. The film became a major box-office success in South Korea and was recognized for its depiction of the Burim case.

In television, he led the 2015 thriller *My Beautiful Bride* as Kim Do-hyung, a banker whose fiancée disappears shortly before their wedding. His character’s search draws him into a criminal network involving trafficking, corruption, and violence. The series gave Kim a sustained leading role built around pursuit, investigation, and emotional desperation.

His later work included the 2020 film *Voice of Silence*, in which he played Chang-bok opposite Yoo Ah-in. The two actors portray men who dispose of bodies and clean crime scenes for criminal organizations. When they are unexpectedly asked to care for an abducted girl, the film shifts from an underworld premise into a morally uneasy story about responsibility and survival. Kim’s Chang-bok is the more talkative and outwardly practical member of the pair.

In Netflix’s 2022 series *Narco-Saints*, Kim played Choi Chang-ho, an agent of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service. The series follows an ordinary businessman, played by Ha Jung-woo, who becomes involved in an operation targeting a Korean drug lord operating in Suriname.

Kim also played Baek Chang-ki, the principal antagonist of the 2024 film *The Roundup: Punishment*. Baek is a former special-forces mercenary running an illegal online-gambling operation in the Philippines, placing him opposite Ma Dong-seok’s detective Ma Seok-do.
