PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie

*PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie* is a 2023 animated film and a sequel to *PAW Patrol: The Movie* (2021). Cal Brunker directed both films and cowrote the sequel’s screenplay with Bob Barlen. Based on the *PAW Patrol* television series created by Keith Chapman, the film brings Ryder and his rescue pups back to Adventure City. It was released theatrically by Paramount Pictures, with animation that gives the pups’ vehicles, headquarters and rescue missions a larger scale than the television series.

The story begins when scientist Victoria Vance draws a meteor toward Adventure City. It crashes near the PAW Patrol’s headquarters, and the pups discover that crystals inside it give them superpowers. Chase gains extraordinary speed, Rubble becomes exceptionally strong, Marshall can control fire, Rocky acquires magnetic abilities, Zuma can manipulate water, and Skye can fly. Ryder equips the team with new gear and vehicles, and they adopt the name “Mighty Pups.”

For Skye, the new power carries particular meaning. A flashback shows her as the smallest puppy in a litter, passed over by people choosing pets before Ryder found her. She still worries that her size makes her less capable than the other pups. The film places that insecurity at the center of its action: flying lets her attempt rescues she could not have managed before, but it also makes her reluctant to admit when she needs help. Her history gives the meteor-powered adventure a personal stake beyond defeating a villain.

Victoria Vance wants the crystals for herself. After joining forces with Mayor Humdinger, the antagonist from the first film, she threatens Adventure City again. Meanwhile, Liberty, the dachshund introduced in the 2021 movie, takes charge of three small dogs named Mini, Nano and Tot. Their eagerness to join the action becomes part of the story’s answer to Skye’s fear that being small means being ineffective.

McKenna Grace voices Skye, Taraji P. Henson voices Victoria Vance, Marsai Martin returns as Liberty, and Ron Pardo voices Humdinger. The cast also includes Christian Convery as Chase and Kim Kardashian returning as Delores the poodle. The film combines its rescue-team premise with a more specific question for Skye: whether her value comes from a spectacular new ability or from the courage and judgment she had before the meteor arrived. That question shapes the confrontation with Vance, in which protecting the city matters more than keeping the pups’ powers.
