Maxton Hall: The World Between Us

Maxton Hall: The World Between Us is a German television drama released on Amazon Prime Video on May 9, 2024. It adapts Save Me, the first novel in Mona Kasten’s Maxton Hall series of young-adult romances. The show was developed by UFA Fiction, with Martin Schreier directing and Daphne Ferraro serving as the showrunner. Its story is set at the fictional private school Maxton Hall in England, although the production filmed primarily in Germany.

The central character is Ruby Bell, a scholarship student whose goal is to study at Oxford. Ruby keeps her distance from Maxton Hall’s wealthy pupils, but she becomes entangled in their lives after seeing Lydia Beaufort, a prominent student, in a secret situation with a teacher. Lydia is James Beaufort’s twin sister, and James comes from the family controlling the school’s powerful fashion business. Worried that Ruby’s discovery could damage the Beaufort name, James tries to make her stay quiet. Their conflict gradually changes into attraction, while class privilege, family expectations, and ambition drive the drama.

Harriet Herbig-Matten plays Ruby Bell, while Damian Hardung portrays James Beaufort. Sonja Weißer plays Lydia, and Runa Greiner plays Ruby’s younger sister Ember Bell. Ben Felipe appears as Cyril Vega, one of James’s wealthy classmates. Fedja van Huêt plays Mortimer Beaufort, James and Lydia’s father, whose authority fuels the family conflict. The main cast also includes Justus von Dohnányi as Angus Bell, Ruby’s father. Their performances anchor a story built around secrets, status, and competing futures at school and home.

The first season consists of six episodes and follows Ruby and James from their antagonistic first encounters toward a relationship neither can easily acknowledge publicly. Ruby’s Oxford ambition gives the romance a concrete direction, while James’s obligation to his father makes personal independence difficult. Lydia’s hidden relationship is the event that brings Ruby and James together, but it also exposes how the Beauforts protect their reputation. The finale leaves the couple facing consequences that threaten Ruby’s plans and James’s position.

Following its premiere, Amazon renewed Maxton Hall for a second season in May 2024. The renewal reflected strong international performance: Prime Video said the series had become its most watched international original ever during its opening week, reaching viewers in more than 120 countries and territories. The announcement also confirmed that Hardung and Herbig-Matten would return as James and Ruby. The adaptation therefore remained tied to Kasten’s continuing Maxton Hall universe.
