The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is Sony Pictures’ planned quartet of interconnected theatrical features, each told from the viewpoint of one member of the Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Announced in February 2024, the project is directed by Sam Mendes, whose previous films include American Beauty, 1917, and Skyfall. Sony said the four films will be released in cinemas in April 2028, an coordinated rollout intended to let audiences experience four perspectives on the group’s story. Rather than adapting a single Beatles biography, the undertaking presents narratives that directly overlap around the band’s history. At CinemaCon in April 2025, Mendes and Sony identified the actors assigned to the four central roles. Harris Dickinson, known for Triangle of Sadness and The Iron Claw, was announced as Lennon. Paul Mescal, the Oscar-nominated star of Aftersun and Gladiator II, was cast as McCartney. Joseph Quinn, who played Eddie Munson in Stranger Things and appeared in A Quiet Place: Day One, was named as Harrison. Barry Keoghan, an Oscar nominee for The Banshees of Inisherin, was announced as Starr. Their casting established that films would use four performers, not treating Beatles as supporting in a single conventional feature. The productions have cooperation of Apple Corps Ltd., the company founded by Beatles in 1968, and band members have approved project. Sony described it as the Beatles scripted-film project granted life-story and music-rights authorization by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and families of John Lennon and George Harrison. That approval matters because films may use Beatles music, unlike projects that must rely on soundalikes or omit the catalogue. Mendes is producing through Neal Street Productions with Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor. Apple Corps’ producers include Jeff Jones, the company’s chief executive, alongside the Beatles’ representatives, as announced by Sony in 2024. The four viewpoints can cover the compressed history of a group that rose from Liverpool clubs to fame after signing with EMI’s Parlophone label in 1962. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr recorded as the Beatles until the group’s 1970 breakup, leaving catalogue that includes Please Please Me, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles, Abbey Road, and Let It Be. The format does not disclose how Mendes divides events, where each film begins, or whether four films will reach scenes from conflicting angles. Those specifics remain unreleased, while the authorized access and four-film structure are confirmed.
