Rosie

Rosie is the debut studio album by South Korean-New Zealand singer Rosé, released on December 6, 2024, through Atlantic Records and The Black Label. Its title comes from the nickname “Rosie,” which Rosé has said she uses with people close to her. The record followed her departure from YG Entertainment’s solo management arrangement while she remained a member of Blackpink, making it an important step in defining her career outside the group.

The album contains twelve tracks, all performed in English. It opens with “3am,” a late-night song about emotional uncertainty, and includes “number one girl,” a piano-led track addressed to the people whose approval matters to Rosé. “two years” reflects on a relationship that has ended, while “toxic till the end” describes the pull of a destructive romance. Other songs, including “drinks or coffee,” “gameboy,” “not the same,” “call it the end,” “too bad for us,” “stay a little longer,” and “dance all night,” continue the album’s focus on intimacy, separation, attraction, and recovery.

The most internationally visible song is “APT.,” a collaboration with Bruno Mars. Released as the lead single on October 18, 2024, it takes its title from “apartment,” a Korean drinking game in which participants chant “apateu.” Rosé introduced the game to Mars during the song’s creation, and the repeated chant became its central hook. The accompanying video uses a deliberately playful, high-energy visual style, with Rosé and Mars performing against bright pink backgrounds and retro-inspired sets.

A second single, “toxic till the end,” was released with a music video set in Paris and featuring model and actor Evan Mock. Its narrative presents a breakup through memories of a relationship that remains emotionally difficult to leave behind. “number one girl,” released before the album, was written in response to online comments and the desire to be recognized by a particular person rather than by a general audience.

Rosie debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, giving Rosé the highest-charting album by a female K-pop soloist at that time. “APT.” also became her first Billboard Hot 100 top-ten single, reaching number eight. The album therefore connects the personal scale of its songwriting with a significant commercial transition: Rosé moves from Blackpink’s group identity into a solo project built around English-language pop, conversational lyrics, and a more openly autobiographical presentation.
