Un deck qui bénéficie de jeux explosifs et imprévisibles et aime lancer plusieurs sorts en un tour, comme un deck combo ou contrôle, trouverait Maelstrom Nexus précieux pour sa capacité de cascade. Alors que Maelstrom Nexus peut conduire à des tours excitants et puissants, il peut être considéré comme trop lent et risqué pour le jeu compétitif en raison de son coût en mana élevé et de sa dépendance à la chance. D'autres cartes comme Maelstrom Pulse ou Maelstrom Wanderer pourraient offrir une valeur plus constante et immédiate dans certaines stratégies.
