Une carte Army of the Damned serait bénéfique dans un deck axé sur la récursion dans les cimetières et la génération de jetons, en particulier dans un deck riche en noir et doté de capacités de rampe de mana. Bien que la carte puisse créer une armée substantielle de zombies, son coût en mana élevé peut limiter son efficacité dans des formats plus rapides comme Modern ou Pioneer. D'autres cartes comme Endless Ranks of the Dead ou Liliana, Dreadhorde General peuvent fournir une valeur plus cohérente dans des stratégies similaires, mais Army of the Damned peut toujours être un puissant finisseur de fin de partie dans les formats Commander ou occasionnel.
