About Morinfen

Morinfen, Legendary creature — phyrexian horror, designed by Carl Critchlow first released in Jun, 1997 in the set Weatherlight.

Morinfen could be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on resource denial and attrition strategies, utilizing the cumulative upkeep cost to pressure the opponent's life total while maintaining a flying threat. However, due to its high mana cost and the potential drawback of sacrificing it if the upkeep cost cannot be paid, there are likely better options available in the current Magic: The Gathering card pool for similar effects, such as Phyrexian Arena or Bitterblossom, which provide consistent card advantage or token generation without the risk of being lost if resources are tight. Overall, Morinfen may struggle to find a place in competitive play compared to more efficient alternatives.

Rules

10/01/08

Paying cumulative upkeep is always optional. If it’s not paid, the permanent with cumulative upkeep is sacrificed. Partial payments of the total cumulative upkeep cost can’t be made. For example, if a permanent with “cumulative upkeep ” has three age counters on it when its cumulative upkeep ability triggers, it gets another age counter and then its controller chooses to either pay or sacrifice the permanent.
