About Grixis Sojourners

Grixis Sojourners, Creature — zombie ogre, designed by John Avon first released in May, 2020 in the set Alara Reborn.

Grixis Sojourners would fit well in a Grixis-themed deck that focuses on graveyard interaction and cycling mechanics, particularly in formats like Commander or Modern where card advantage and recursion are key strategies. Its ability to exile cards from graveyards can disrupt opponents' graveyard synergies while providing a cycling option for card draw, making it versatile. However, there are arguably stronger options for graveyard hate and cycling, such as Leyline of the Void for graveyard exile or Street Wraith for cycling, which might be more efficient in certain builds. Overall, while Grixis Sojourners has its niche, it may not see widespread play unless the deck specifically benefits from its unique abilities.

Rules

05/01/09

If you cycle this card, the cycling ability goes on the stack, then the triggered ability goes on the stack on top of it. The triggered ability will resolve before you draw a card from the cycling ability.

05/01/09

You can cycle this card even if there are no targets for the triggered ability. That’s because the cycling ability itself has no targets.

10/01/08

Cycling is an activated ability. Effects that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle or Rings of Brighthearth) will interact with cycling. Effects that interact with spells (such as Remove Soul or Faerie Tauntings) will not.
