Crippling Fear, Sorcery, designed by Néstor Ossandón Leal first released in Jan, 2021 in the set Kaldheim and was printed exactly in 9 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.
A deck that focuses on tribal synergy, such as a Zombie or Elf tribal deck, would benefit from using Crippling Fear to weaken opposing non-tribal creatures. However, there are better options available, such as Damnation or Languish, which offer more efficient board wipes. Crippling Fear could still see play in specific metagames where tribal strategies are prevalent, but it may not be a top choice in most scenarios.

Crippling Fear affects only creatures that aren’t of the chosen type that are on the battlefield as it resolves. It won’t affect creatures that enter the battlefield later in the turn, regardless of creature type. If a creature changes creature types later in the turn, Crippling Fear won’t start or stop affecting that creature.

You choose the creature type as Crippling Fear resolves, and then creatures not of that type get -3/-3. Once Crippling Fear starts to resolve, players can’t respond to the choice or take any actions until Crippling Fear finishes resolving.
