Samite Elder, Creature — human cleric, designed by Terese Nielsen first released in Feb, 2001 in the set Planeshift.
The Samite Elder card would be beneficial in a white-based control or midrange deck that focuses on protecting its creatures from specific colors of removal or combat damage. While Samite Elder provides a useful ability, there are potentially better options such as Mother of Runes or Giver of Runes, which offer similar protection effects but with more flexibility and lower mana cost. Samite Elder may not see as much play in competitive Magic: The Gathering formats due to its higher cost and limited scope of protection compared to other cards available.

If the color of that permanent changes after the ability takes effect, the color of protection that was granted does not change.
